Dr. Samuel González is honored to serve as the Principal of Barkley Elementary School. He is excited to join the Barkley community and is committed to helping create a school where students feel safe, families feel welcome, and staff feel supported.
Before coming to Barkley, Dr. González served as an Elementary Assistant Principal at Simmons and Hallowell Elementary Schools in the Hatboro Horsham School District. He also previously served in the Pennsbury School District as an elementary classroom teacher, a Kindergarten through fifth grade literacy specialist, and a districtwide equity liaison. These experiences strengthened his belief that strong relationships, clear communication, excellent teaching, and meaningful family partnerships are the foundation of a great school.
Dr. González is deeply committed to evidence based literacy instruction, explicit teaching, and creating learning environments where every child feels known, valued, challenged, and supported. He believes children learn best when they are surrounded by adults who care deeply about them and work together to help them grow academically, socially, and emotionally.
Dr. González also believes families are essential partners in a child’s education. As a bilingual educator who speaks English and Spanish, he deeply values the cultures, experiences, and strengths that families bring to the school community. He wants every family to feel welcomed, respected, heard, and connected to their child’s school experience.
Dr. González earned his Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Saint Joseph’s University, where his research focused on professional learning in evidence based literacy instruction. He also earned a Master’s degree in Reading, Writing, and Literacy from the University of Pennsylvania and his undergraduate degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from Penn State University. His certifications include Principal K-12, Elementary Classroom Teacher K-6, Reading Specialist K-12, and Teaching English as a Second Language Program Specialist K-12.
Outside of education, one of the greatest honors of Dr. González’s life was serving in the United States Army National Guard. That experience strengthened his belief in service, teamwork, humility, discipline, and leadership through action.
Outside of school, Dr. González enjoys spending time with his wife Esther, their dog Minnie, serving at church, reading, exercising, listening to music, and spending time with family and friends.
Dr. González is grateful for the opportunity to serve Barkley Elementary School and looks forward to partnering with students, staff, families, and the community to help every Barkley student learn, grow, belong, and thrive.
