Barkley Author's Day!

This year, Barkley School hosted two incredible authors who shared their work and creativity with us.

Kevin McCloskey
Professor of Illustration, Kutztown University of PA. Born: Rahway, NJ.

Author/illustrator of the Giggle and Learn Series for Toon Books. He has traveled the country from the Franklin Institute, Philadelphia to the California Academy of Sciences sharing fascinating facts about common creatures. We Dig Worms! was created in 2015 when his wife, Patt, a librarian, asked for a funny worm book to read to children. He painted worms on recycled grocery bags.

“Before I started writing, I did all sorts of work in all sorts of places. In Denali National Park, Alaska, I worked as a waitress. I studied plants and made a prairie (sort of) in Kansas. I lived in Ghana, West Africa, for two years as a Peace Corps volunteer, and in Costa Rica I rented boots to tourists in a cloud forest. I worked in a prison in Missouri. So far in Pennsylvania, where I currently live, I have taught dance classes, painted a mural on the local library, and explained raptor migration to children at Hawk Mountain Sanctuary.”
