Favorite: In 2016, I collaborated with a two 5th grade classes to participate in The Barnes Foundation "Art of Math" Challenge in Philadelphia. Student groups in each class worked together to use math to re-create a famous painting from The Barnes collection in three-dimensional models. Student models were put on view at The Barnes and three student representatives from each group presented their work to a panel of judges from the museum and The Math Forum. Prizes for best use of math were given out to one group each in elementary, middle school and high school grade bands and our very own group from Ms. Scherff's class won first place in the elementary division! They competed against seven other 5th grades from Philadelphia and approximately 20 elementary school classrooms. Our kids amazing creativity is what won over the judges. Different from their competitors, our students drew inspiration from artist Chuck Close by using a grid system to minimize and transfer the objects in the original painting to their 3D model. We were all so impressed and proud of their hard work and ingenuity.

Information: In August 2017 I launched a jewelry line after three years of brainstorming and planning. Noelle Rose Jewelry, named after two of my nieces, features handmade jewelry sculptures that I craft from a variety of exotic wood and metal. Having spent years studying metalsmithing at Penn State and San Diego State University I am thrilled to finally have found a creative outlet that I not only love and am passionate about, but that supports my creativity in the classroom.
